Question 1

What is the difference between traditional and laser cataract surgery?

Accepted Answer

In traditional surgery, the surgeon performs the intervention with manual instruments and ultrasound. During the femtosecond laser procedure, the most critical steps of the surgery—opening the lens capsule and fragmenting the lens—are performed by a computer-controlled laser. This results in greater precision, more accurate intraocular lens positioning, reduced ultrasound energy use, fewer surgical complications, and faster recovery.

Question 2

Is laser cataract surgery painful?

Accepted Answer

No, the surgery is painless. We use local anesthetic drops, so there is no need for injections or general anesthesia. Patients may feel at most slight pressure during certain steps of the intervention.

Question 3

How long does the surgery and clinic stay take?

Accepted Answer

The surgery itself typically takes only 10–15 minutes per eye. Including surgical preparation, rest, and briefings, you will need to spend approximately 3 hours at the clinic in total.

Question 4

When will I see clearly again after surgery?

Accepted Answer

Most patients experience significant improvement the day after surgery, and nearly everyone achieves good vision within a few days. However, vision may still fluctuate significantly during the first days, begins to stabilize around the second week; the final result and complete healing typically develop within 4–6 weeks.

Question 5

Do I need to have sutures removed?

Accepted Answer

No. The small (2–3 mm) corneal incisions are self-sealing, so sutures are not needed and there is no need for their later removal either.
